A Persistence of Vision display I found after stumbling across the wikipedia article for mechanical televisions.
The Acer X1130P is an entry level projector from before the big 3D kick. Some versions, like mine, have stickers that say DLP 3D ready and Nvidia 3D ready. These projectors have the capability of accepting 3d media and displaying when when paired with Active Shutter 3D glasses. This works in spite of the fact that the projector is only capable of 85 frames for second, because of the nature of DLP projection. Texas Instruments owns the rights to DLP, as well as 3D DLP. Texas Instruments’ DLP chips only contain half the resolution that they should (400×300 instead of 800×60), but draw each frame twice to make up for it. They draw each frame in a checkerboard pattern, first drawing the black checkerboxes, then drawing the white ones. To make matters more complicated, they also use a color wheel for color. The reason the 1130 is capable of 3d is acually because it draws each frame twice. This means that, if you feed it a checkerboard pattern, with odd pixels intended for the right eye, and even ones for the left eye, it will automatically display alternating frames for each eye at double the set frame rate (60hz for the 1130). This is how Nvidia graphics cards are able to give the projector a 3d signal. Stereoscopic Player is apparently capable of giving the appropriate checkerboard through a vga cable. It will perhaps be possible to find a suitable set of cheap Active 3d glasses which work off of a vga dongle, allowing this to be a working 120hz 3d projector for quite cheap.
